Monday morning, August 23rd, 9:50 am.  I walked into the newly remodeled lecture hall of Wolfe 1201.  Immediately I began recognizing faces from the previous two semesters.  Everyone exchanged warm smiles and friendly greetings.  Some faces were from organic chemistry, others from physics, and even more from biology.  We all had one thing in common.  We are all pharmacy majors.  We were all gearing up for the 2011 application process.  I took my seat next to the people whom I had spent many days and nights with in the library over the course of last year; people whom I am now proud to call my best friends.  We had eaten together, gotten lost together (on and off campus), moved each other from apartment to apartment, and most importantly we studied together.  We learned together.

So here we were now in the class that begins the journey, PHCL 2600.  The journey to what each and everyone of us has been working toward for a very long time.  We exchanged looks of excitement as Dr. Williams, professor of our section explained that the material being covered throughout the course of this class was to prepare us for the future…not just spring semester, but our courses in the professional division.  The learning began.

I was careful not to let the excitement overcome me; it was important that I find my focus to preform well.

A brand new semester and academic year has begun and I am ready to explore the uncharted territories of my new classes, to strengthen the bonds between my colleagues, and to forge new bonds with the great people whom I’m sure to meet this semester.

Be alert, for many challenges and trials await us all.  It is through these challenges, and through these trials that we will become better individuals, wiser individuals.  I look forward to blogging my days and sharing them with all to read, and I wish each and everyone of my colleagues well wishes for this semester.

Nicholas Albano is a pre-pharmacy major who earmarked the beginning of his second full year as a Toledo Rocket by taking advantage of UT’s distance learning courses and taking six summer classes!  Nicholas also worked full-time as a pharmacy technician for a chain drugstore near his home.  Nicholas made certain to leave time for his second passion, travel, which included New York City as a highlight.  October, 2010 marked Nicholas’s seventh anniversary as a pharmacy technician and seven years of dedication and passion to the profession of pharmacy.
