Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Care Center to Offer TrueBeam Radiation Technology

There are new advancements in radiation therapy with patients firmly in mind.

The University of Toledo Medical Center’s Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Care Center now features the latest in innovative cancer treatments – The Varian TrueBeam™  System. This radiotherapy and radiosurgery treatment system can facilitate fast, accurate image-guided radiotherapy.

Radiotherapy dose delivery rates are 40-140 higher than in earlier generations of Varian™ technology. This results in greater comfort for patients, as treatment times are much shorter.

The TrueBeam™ system also delivers high doses of radiotherapy in fractions of millimeters: keeping healthy tissue and organs safe while aggressively targeting tumors. Even tumors that move when a patient breathes can be targeted, which is especially beneficial for tumors in the lung or breast.

The Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Care Center is the first in the area to implement this cutting-edge equipment. This is yet another way we provide patients with a multitude of options, including access to experimental treatments and therapies that cannot be found elsewhere.

Many of us are touched by cancer at some point in our lives. At the University of Toledo Medical Center’s Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center, we will guide you through all the stages of your care, help reduce your anxiety and empower you with knowledge about your condition.

The new TrueBeam™ Technology reflects our commitment to helping our patients conquer their illness and regain their confidence.

The article focused on the center’s ability to diagnose, research, treat and provide support services for cancer patients all in one place. 13 ABC’s Story on the Upcoming UTMC Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center

Back in June 2012, 13 ABC shared the news that the University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) would be building a new, multi-million dollar cancer center to provide centralized care. The center would make it possible for patients to be diagnosed, treated with chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, and receive therapy and recovery support all in one place.

The article outlined plans for the new Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center and included quotes from UTMC physician Dr. John Feldmeier, Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology.

Part of what makes the center special, Feldmeier said, is the innovative technology available and the research that’s done at the new center. PET CT-scanners and CT images target tumors, and linear accelerators give physicians better access to tumors and mean more efficient treatment.
