The Judith Herb College of Education’s one-year Licensure and Master’s Program (LAMP) was designed by Drs. Rebecca Schneider, Jenny Denyer and Virginia Keil.  They created a well-designed program that puts into action the best ideas about teacher preparation.  LAMP integrates theories about learning and education with the practice of teaching.  The program is designed to meet the needs of already degreed adult learners and is a comprehensive graduate program for those wanting to earn a license in either middle school (grades 4 -9) or adolescent to young adult (grades 7-12), along with a master’s degree in education.

The Judith Herb College of Education welcomes it’s 2013 Distinguished Alumna, State Representation Teresa Fedor.

Homecoming is a time for welcoming alums back to campus to reacquaint themselves with former classmates and teachers as well as to meet current students and faculty.  Representative Fedor graduated from The University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Education degree in June of 1983 and went on to teach for 18 years.  She later pursed a career in public service and is now serving her third term in the Ohio House of Representatives representing the 45^th House District.  Although Representative Fedor lives in Toledo and attends events at the University, we would like to welcome her specifically to the Judith Herb College of Education as its Distinguished Alumna.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Chinese Moon Festival takes place Tuesday, September 17 in the Student Union from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The University of Toledo’s Accelerated Licensure And Master’s Program ( LAMP) is designed for those that have a bachelor degree in a major, other than education.

LAMP students complete a one-year internship while taking graduate courses at The University of Toledo for Ohio licensure and a Master’s of Education Degree.  At the end of the internship, LAMP students present their ideas and examples of how to teach the important concepts in their content through an interactive poster presentation. Included in those attending the presentation are other education students in the Judith Herb College of Education, University of Toledo faculty, superintendents, school principals, mentor teachers and invited guests.

Through the poster presentation, students address what questions can or should be asked in language arts, mathematics, social studies or science classrooms.  They share what types of investigations students should engage in, as well as examples of those investigations.

Dr. Charlene M. Czerniak, professor of science education in the Judith Herb College of Education, Health Science and Human Service. She has been at UT for 23 years. To date, she has generated $30 million in extramural funds from places such as the National Science Foundation. She has presented more than 50 times nationally and internationally, as well as more than 50 times at state and regional meetings. Czerniak has published approximately 50 papers and nine book chapters, and is editor of several books and journals. She has received the George Mallinson Distinguished Service Award, the Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence in Teacher Education, the Judith Herb College of Education Research Award and the Distinguished Alumni Award for Service.

Congratulations to Jessica Branch, Alexandria Lemerand, Rachel Koepke, and Luke Ferrell on a successful poster presentation at the 2013 Ohio Early Care and Education Conference.  Jessica, a doctoral student in early childhood education, presented her poster on the Reggio Emilia Approach.  Alexandria, Rachel, and Luke (early childhood licensure students) presented a poster on Multi-Sensory Education.  Any students interested in submitting a poster proposal to the 2014 Ohio Early Care and Education Conference can contact Dr. Ruslan Slutsky at 419.530.4354 or at ruslan.slutsky@utoledo.edu  for further information.  We look forward to having many more students representing the Judith Herb College of Education at the largest education conference in Ohio.
